                                                                       d
                                                               E = ∫ F ds
                                                                       0
wobei ds ein Streckenelement darstellt (s. Bild unten).

The Translation

The rectilinear translation takes place if an object - on which is acting a force F - has not any fast
physical connections and can therefore be moved along a stretch.
In contradiction to the translation, in the case of the rotary motion the object is rigidly fastened on
an axis, around which it can only be turned. Consequently is the rotation a guided movement.
The general formula of the translation energy along the distance d is:
                                                                       d
                                                               E = ∫ F ds
                                                                       0
where ds represents an element of stretch (see the picture below).
If the acting force F is constant, then we attain the simple relation: E = F d.
The power represents the energy input in the unit of time: P = F d / t.
But the quotient d / t is the speed of movement v, and this way results: P = F v.
In conformity with Newton’s third law of action and reaction the moved object is oposing a reactive
force Fr to the active force F. Thereby Fr = F.
An adequate example of a translating motion is the rocket propulsion. The active force F is gene-
rated by the explosion of special fuels. In this process the rocket is permanently accelerated until
the resisting forces equalize the active force F. After this phase the further flight continues with a
           constant velocity.
An important difference between rotation and translation consists in the fact that by the rotation
the direction of the active force F is constantly changing (as at the nozzle runner of the mentioned
waterjet turbine). Thus the dynamic of the reactive forces is also different to that of the translation.
The rotary motion is accelerated as well until it reaches a constant rotation speed, at which the
active turning moment is equalized by the reactive moments.
